Optimizing Windows 7 for VDI

It amazes me that we are still talking about how to deploy Windows 7 and that XP is still a mainstream OS, and likely will be until we get closer to 2014 when XP support ends. I find Windows 7 to be one of the best versions of Windows. Almost enough to get me to switch from Linux, almost. That said, I do a lot of VMware View work and my VDI clients ask what changes I make to speed up the VDI desktop.

Optimizing Windows XP for VDI

It is important to optimize the desktop for your VDI environment, this is true if your environment is Citrix XenDesktop or VMWare View. This document will outline some of the key changes that need to be made with your desktop. If this is to be your template give it a meaning full generic name such as "xp-template"

Virtual Desktops - Graphic Applications and Mouse

I recently came across a unique situation with a remote office as we virtualized the servers and looked to virtualizing the workflows. For this office we deployed Citrix XenDesktop 5.5 and provided a desktop to each user. Each user was provided a persistent desktop. This persistent desktop was created from a master image with installed core applications. Then each user had specific applications installed into their desktop creating a one-to-one desktop to user relationship.

VMWorld 2011

I've been working with VMware since early 2000 and this is my first VMworld. I don't know why I haven't gone sooner. I went this year because all the major releases of VMware products are coinciding at the same time; vSphere 5, vCD (vCloud Director), SRM 5 and View 5 and some new functionality. What I saw at VMworld didn't disappoint.

Virtualization

VMware virtualization is our speciality. We are all certified engineers and architects with the VMware platform and especially vSphere 4. With over 12 years design experience with VMware - we are subject matter experts. A guide can help you with the process of setting up your Data Center, or smaller virtualization environments. Virtualization is one of the fastest growing areas of technology and becoming available to companies of all sizes. This drive is allowing businesses to achieve higher returns on investment, green the datacenter, and unify management.

Implementing VMWare View

VMware View is an exciting technology. Desktop Virtualization is probably one of the fastest growing segments within virtualization. Implement VMware View correctly and it allows you to instantly deploy and provision desktops to local and remote users from within your datacenter. Your organization can standardize the desktop deployments by creating images of approved desktops, then automatically provision as many as you need.
Easily manage groups of users from a single desktop image.
